When will the Skilling Australians Fund be implemented?
The Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) levy is expected to be implemented in the first quarter of 2018-19, i.e. before 30 September 2018.
Once implemented, a nominating employer will be required to pay a training contribution charge, based on the visa being applied for, the proposed visa duration and the turnover of the business.
The proposed SAF levies are as follows:
Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa:
For businesses with a turnover of:
- Less than $10M – the SAF contribution will be $1200 per year
- $10M or more – the SAF contribution will be $1800 per year
Subclass 186 or subclass 187 visas:
For businesses with a turnover of:
- Less than $10M – the SAF contribution will be $3000 one-off
- $10M or more – the SAF contribution will be $5000 one-off
TSS and 186/187 nomination applications should be lodged as soon as possible to avoid having to pay the SAF levy.
